About

Music Director – Rob Sequeira

Rob SequeiraRob is the Founder and Music Director of Vox Canvas.

Rob’s musical background is in percussion, voice and jazz. He grew up in Sydney, Australia playing drums in a 16-piece jazz/big-band called “Group Therapy”. He also sang lead vocals and played piano in a jazz quintet. His vocal stylings were often compared with Nat “King” Cole and Harry Connick Jr, an incredible honour.

In 2004, 3 years after discovering the magic of a cappella, Rob was asked to take on the assistant director role at The Peninsulaires in Palo Alto, California. In 2005, he went to his first Barbershop Harmony Society’s (BHS) Director’s College and his first ever BHS International Competition.

After joining Voices in Harmony, a 100+ strong a cappella chorus. Rob went on to being lead section leader, assistant director and Music Vice President and led the chorus to a 2008 International 3rd place bronze medal.

Since returning to Australia, Rob sings with the BHA National Bronze medal quartet Catalyst.

Assistant Music Director – Ricky Allan

Ricky Allan

Ricky has been a musician since the age of five, when he was introduced to the piano by his father. Dreaming big, he began to teach himself to play every instrument he could find. He has attained a series of grades in many of them, including music theory.

Playing in many groups of varying local popularity, he got his first taste of a cappella harmony when singing in his family band, and was hooked from then on. After joining a small barbershop chorus known then as the Riverland Ramblers, he quickly took on leadership roles, becoming barbershop’s youngest music director in Australia in 2013.

Ricky loves to compete, and so sang tenor in the quartet The Bernoulli Effect, who placed silver in the Australian Eastern Region competition–repeatedly second only to Rob’s quartet, Zoom. Ricky is thrilled to have been Vox Canvas’ assistant music director since its inception, and is looking forward to helping it grow in the future.
