About

Sing with us

We are actively looking for new members and would love for you to drop into a rehearsal and sing with us!

We rehearse on Tuesdays from 7pm – 10pm at the MCC Church in Petersham, (96 Crystal St, Petersham)

Music Director – Ricky Allan

Ricky is a founding member of Vox Canvas and was the Assistant Music Director for over a decade before becoming Music Director in 2025, taking over from another founding member, Rob Sequeira.

Ricky has been a musician since the age of five, when he was introduced to the piano by his father. Dreaming big, he began to teach himself to play every instrument he could find. He has since taught many of those instruments, as well as voice coaching. His education style focuses on enjoyment of the art, with a strong data-driven backing – he holds a bachelor’s degree in Medical Science (Anatomy and Physiology).

Although his musical influences range widely, he got his first taste of a cappella harmony when singing in his family band, and was hooked from then on. After joining a small barbershop chorus known then as the Riverland Ramblers, he quickly took on leadership roles, becoming barbershop’s youngest music director in Australia in 2013.

He loves to compete, singing tenor in the quartet Single Malt alongside his assistant MD Tav, who sings bass. The two of them hold multiple gold medals in the Australian Eastern Region competition, including with Single Malt. Ricky is thrilled to have been both a singer and a leader of Vox Canvas, and is excited to see its members grow and improve each rehearsal.

Life Member, Founder, Music Director (2015-2025) – Rob Sequeira

Rob SequeiraRob is the Founder and former Music Director of Vox Canvas .

Rob’s musical background is in percussion, voice and jazz. He grew up in Sydney, Australia playing drums in a 16-piece jazz/big-band called “Group Therapy”. He also sang lead vocals and played piano in a jazz quintet. His vocal stylings were often compared with Nat “King” Cole and Harry Connick Jr, an incredible honour.

In 2004, 3 years after discovering the magic of a cappella, Rob was asked to take on the assistant director role at The Peninsulaires in Palo Alto, California. In 2005, he went to his first Barbershop Harmony Society’s (BHS) Director’s College and his first ever BHS International Competition.

After joining Voices in Harmony, a 100+ strong a cappella chorus. Rob went on to being lead section leader, assistant director and Music Vice President and led the chorus to a 2008 International 3rd place bronze medal.

Since returning to Australia, Rob sings with the BHA National Bronze medal quartet Catalyst.
